Christie had a Samoyed and a Toy Fox Terrier when she was 5 years old. Her Samoyed actually lay in the back seat of her car when she took her drivers test at 16. After raising her 7 children who had a sundry of dogs, Christie went in search of a Samoyed. She acquired a dog from Bob and Dolly Ward who she named, “Keta,” the name of her childhood Samoyed, hence her Kennel Name, d’ Keta, or in Greek (Christie is 100% Greek) of Keta. From this point on she exhibited and bred Samoyeds and became active in the Samoyed Club of America and was a founder of Willamette Valley Samoyed Fanciers. During this time Christie acquired a Toy Fox Terrier which she finished and bred one time, the dam and all the puppies finishing their championship very quickly.
In the mid 90’s Seattle Kennel Club asked me if I’d like to judge a match. I was so nervous I had to stop at a rest room 3 times between Portland and Seattle. The minute I entered the ring I was totally relaxed and enjoyed every minute of it. That is when my journey began into judging. I now judge Best in Show, the Working, Non-Sporting and Toy Groups and several breeds in the Hound Group as well as Miscellaneous and Junior Showmanship.
The highlight of my dog career was winning breed at the Rose City Classic in Portland with my 6 month 2 week old Toy Fox Terrier over 7 Specials. She won BOW the other 2 days and finished the following weekend. Judges were Beverly Capstick, Kent Delaney and Anne Rogers Clark.
The other highlight was in 2011 when my boy, Ch. d’Keta’s Solid Gold (owned by author of Rex of White Way, Jim Cheskawich), won Breed at the Samoyed Club of America’s National Specialty.
I am a member of Dog Judges Association of America, American Dog Show Judges, Samoyed Club of America, Willamette Valley Samoyed Association (founding member), Mount Rainier Working Dog Club (founding member), Toy Dog Club of Puget Sound, Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club and Oregon Dog Judges of which I was President for 7 years prior to moving to Port Ludlow.
My favorite things are when my family and friends visits me in Port Ludlow. I enjoy sailing with Manny and love the way he supports me in my passion for all things dogs. We just got a new puppy, Poppy, a Havanese. She is our boat dog and maybe, our show dog.
